Land Without Bread

An extraordinarily powerful documentary, directed by Luis Bunuel, on the impoverished people living in the Las Hurdes region of Spain. Bunuel's vision is so strong that the film becomes unsettling, turning the real into the surreal. B&W, 28 minutes. Plus: HOUSING PROBLEMS (England, 1935): This early classic short film, directed by Arthur Elton and Edgar Anstey, explores the horrors and evils of the urban housing of the '30s through unrehearsed interviews with slum dwellers.

Spain, 1932, B&W, 15 minutes. Both films on one videocassette, total running time 43 minutes.
