The first US Army division to take up arms in World War 2, the 24th Infantry engaged attacking units of the Imperial Japanese Navy at Pearl Harbor, December 7th, 1941, shooting down 5 enemy planes. Japanese General Yamashita claimed that the Imperial Army’s back was broken by the 24th in the Philippines, and General MacArthur was photographed with members of the "Victory" division on his return to Manila!
