The Memphis Belle (William Wyler) Supervised by Lieutenant Colonel William Wyler. The subject of this film, one of the finest documentaries ever put out by the War Department during World War II, is the final mission of the Flying Fortress Memphis Belle as it led a squadron of bombers in a daring daylight attack on the submarine pens at Wilhemshaven. The entire mission is followed from beginning to end with some of the most fantastic action ever captured on film. Made by the Photographic Section of the US Eighth Air Force, Memphis Belle is a dramatic, thrilling factual account of a real mission, supervised by the director who won the Oscar for Mrs. Miniver. (...one of the finest fact films of this war. This brilliant report on a daylight mission of heavy bombers in a raid on Germany is as vivid and actual and informative as any film that we have yet seen...it almost pervades the spectator with an illusion of personal experience...--Bosley Crowther, New York Times) USA, 1944, Color, 43 minutes.
