(Des Teufels General) A terrific suspense thriller loosely based on the life of Ernst Udet, the highest-scoring German ace to survive World War I (62 confirmed kills). Udet received the Pour le Merite, the coveted Blue Max, and became the Luftwaffe's inspector general under Göring. General Harras (Udet) is played by Curt Jürgens (star of The Enemy Below, The Battle of Britain, & The Longest Day). Marianne Koch (Der Stern von Afrika [The Star of Africa]) and Bum Krüger are also featured. Harras develops newer, deadlier fighters and bombers for the Luftwaffe as an aircraft designer. But as inspector general he must determine why his newly designed bombers keep crashing. He loses standing with the Nazi leadership when they wonder whether the problem is poor aircraft design or...sabotage. Directed by Helmut Käutner; featuring Curt Jürgens, Victor de Kowa, and Karl John.
